Demon Lands - Devlog 2 (Pixiv Fanbox)

Content

Foreword

I decided to switch my focus to making a playable Alpha version of the game ready as quickly as possible, due to the outpouring of support and positive feedback to the first post.

I'll be posting these devlogs when I can for Fans, so that you can stay in touch with the game while I continue to work on things. The Supporter tier will be getting sketch previews of the scenes that will be in the game as I finish them :3

Bear in mind that these logs may have some spoilers! I will keep some elements under wraps, but if you want to dive into the game without any prior knowledge then you've been warned~

Paladin Pals

At the very beginning of the game, you start out as a novice adventurer hoping to become a Paladin. Anyone can travel to the Demon Lands and call themselves an adventurer, but Paladins are a specific sect of proven warriors who are specifically trained to fight Demons.

Along your journey, you'll meet a colourful cast of other boy Paladins! In Chapter 1 (The extent of the Alpha build), there are five characters in the story. They do not accompany you when adventuring or in combat, but they do help you along your journey and each have unique relevance to Lucas' story.

Lucas

Lucas is the boy you play as, though you can give him any name you like. he was spurred out of his civilian life when his little brother was kidnapped by a mysterious Demon, and it's his goal to rescue him.

Though inexperienced, he shows a surprising amount of talent as a Paladin. Determined, kind-hearted, and charismatic, if not a little goofy.

Tommy

Tommy is a prodigous alchemist and mage, and a renowned academic on the forefront of humanity's knowledge of Demons. Timid and sweet, he is the first person to want to help Lucas on his journey, and uses his intellect to help guide him on many occassions.

He is often using words far beyond the other boys' vocabulary, especially when he's flustered or excited. He's known for performing a lot of hands-on research on Demonic creatures, flora, and their magic in his lab.

Chris

Chris is a very blunt, sarcastic, and grumpy boy who runs the Inn in town. Though he's a Paladin, he has stopped exploring the Demon Lands and opted to a quieter life instead. Those who know him well suspect he's jaded after many years of losing friends to Demons, and some even remember the cheery hero boy he used to be.

He's very standofish and rude to Lucas when he first comes to the outpost, but Lucas' earnest efforts slowly chip away at his cynicism.

Isaac

Isaac is an extraordinarily talented Paladin, and also mans a small shop in the Paladin Outpost. His expertise and skill in navigating the Demon Lands allow him to come across many strange and powerful relics from the Lands, and he's always looking for new treasures to collect. He's athletic, strong-willed, and stealthy, which allows him to take on the Outposts' toughest missions.

He's extremely cocky and lewd, which is offputting to new adventurers he meets. He has a reputation as a proud pervert, which often makes people wonder if he's a Demon himself. Although he seems to take pleasure in others' lewd misfortunes at the hands Demons, he always does the right thing eventually, and has rescued more captives from the Demon Lands than any other adventurer.

Alex

Alex is an especially young Paladin who has a chronic habit of getting into trouble. Despite his small size, he has an incredibly-inflated ego and hyperactive energy, which has earned him a reputation as a brat.

Even though Alex is constantly getting in trouble with Demons, he somehow still manages to escape or be rescued. Some Paladins believe luck is a skill in itself, and Alex has good and back luck in spades!

This month's plans

I hope to be making progress on a lot of the sketches for the different scenes. I have 2/12 of them sketched, which means 10 more images sets to do. Once they are sketched I can start a private testing build to gather opinions/feedback before I make a Fanbox Alpha release :3

It'll be a long journey, but hopefully you will enjoy the sketches to come! The next Devlog I think will focus on the combat system in a lot more depth.
